September’s Local Love

co-written by Jenny O’Mahony & Samantha Potter

Here we go, our second local love post! We are so excited about it all and cannot believe the fantastic feedback we received for August’s local love. September’s local love also filled up so quickly for us, and we already are almost set for October.

We never anticipated such a great reaction from everyone but are so excited that you’re all here for it! Getting DMs or emails about how much you love it makes our day.

When you all send us some brands that you love, we also really appreciate that! The number of new brands (to us!) that we come across continues to grow, and we think we’ve found some pretty unique ones that deserve their incredible stories to be told. We feel grateful we use our platforms to share some amazing companies with you.

In case you’re only following on the blog and want to follow along for our monthly local love giveaways, we will link our Instagram feeds (Jenny’s and Samantha’s).

Let’s get into September’s local love brands already!!!

So Luxury

One of the first brands we were lucky enough to secure for September’s Local Love was So Luxury. We felt grateful that these lovely ladies immediately responded yes to joining us.

Amanda and Shylah, two best friends, started So Luxury (previously Bebe de Luxe) from their apartments and have grown it into something extraordinary. They have the best bath products anyone could ask for. Each and every person raves about the coco oat for their babies and any skin issue – for a good reason. It works for EVERYTHING and is so gentle. You can see a ton of reviews on their Instagram highlights.

Both Jenny and Samantha have been long time users of So Luxury, including the coco oat for their munchkins. Samantha also obsesses over their magnesium spray and now their magnesium bath salts for a stress-free, relaxing moment before bed.

Active Baby

Samantha has been shopping at Active Baby for Sloane since she was born. She randomly met their buyer one day while shopping around in the store, and they bonded over the fact that their children had the same wonderful pediatrician.

The passion for her job shines through in-person and when you walk into the store and see the beautifully curated items in the shop.

They source some unique locally Canadian (and some American) made items. Most of what they carry is from smaller shops like Tiny Button Apparel, featured in our August Local Love, and So Luxury, who is featured in this months!

They often run amazing promos and share them on Instagram AND, new parents, they offer a 3-5% return on your purchases in the form of in-store credits once you sign up in-store or on their website. You don’t ever stop buying things for your kids, so… yeah, needless to say, this is useful!

Kitsch Wines

Samantha was jumping up and down so overly excited when Kitsch Wines said they’d join us for our giveaway this month. She’s the most obsessed anyone could be with their rose. If you haven’t tried it yet, go and find yourself a bottle (you can order through their website – or they also have a stockist page on there) and pour a glass, cruise their Instagram… Then come back and finish reading this post.

Trent and Ria Kitsch, super-wine couple extraordinaire, started this winery in 2010 after moving back to Kelowna. Their families have a long-rooted history in the Okanagan, and they took that along with their passions for wine and creative entrepreneurship to produce this fantastic wine.

Cheers to them!

Glitter and Spice

Lorene started Glitter & Spice when she noticed a lack of modern teething accessories on the market. This Vancouver business makes the most adorable (and fun!) teething toys you’ve ever seen – check it all out on their Instagram page! Function, aesthetic – and, most importantly, safety – are at the forefront of this female-founded business. From teethers to teething necklaces, pacifier clips, tableware, and soon silicone straw cups – Glitter & Spice has you covered!

Aloha Kai

Also a Vancouver-based company, Aloha Kai, offers a selection of clothing and hats with fun, bold prints. Founded by Jackie and Puna, Aloha Kai was created to share their love of Hawaii while allowing them to give back and encourage people to spread the aloha. Aloha Kai donates partial proceeds to BC Children’s Hospital, a cause near and dear to their hearts.  Not only are you buying unique and fun apparel, but you are also helping to support a wonderful cause. Great design and altruism in one package? Does it get any better?! Have a look at their Instagram to see their fun designs.

Absolute Gym

Jenny here – both of my older girls attend Cheer and Tumbling here and would come daily if they could! We’ve done gymnastics in other local gyms and have been blown away by the difference that exists at Absolute Gym. After ONE cheer practice all Isla could talk about was her team and how important they all were – the take-home was inclusion. Absolute Gym is the North Shore’s only premier Cheerleading & Tumbling training facility – you can see the passion behind it all on their Instagram feed. Their philosophy combines positive reinforcement within a structured and disciplined environment, which leads to happy, healthy kids!

That’s the round-up for September! We have another amazing line up ready to go for October that we can’t wait to share!
