Okay, Vancouver, thank you for going back into a warm spell and allowing me to flip back to summertime for a hot minute. I was very ready for warm, cozy cocktails – like a hot apple cider by the fire kind of situation. But not now; we need a cool-me-down, it’s really hot in our non-shaded backyard, kind of a cocktail.

Well, luckily, when my mom was here, we opened a horrible bottle of wine. I’m not sure when luckily and an awful bottle of wine go into the same sentence, but apparently, it does today. We did not want to waste it but also aren’t exactly the types to just suck it up and drink the wine.

What I usually do with the wine I don’t particularly love or don’t finish on-time is reduce it down and make wine reductions for cooking and then freeze them using ice molds. I didn’t need anymore, though, as I have a freezer full of white and red wine reductions.

Signed Samantha shared a recipe for wine smoothies. There are two yellow-y orange wine smoothies pictured in blue glasses with a short stem and orange slices on the side.

And so began the creation of this wine smoothie.

Although it looks like a healthy breakfast smoothie type drink, it is not – honestly, but that is only because of the wine, though.

If you’re looking for a healthy breakfast situation, try my tropical smoothie recipe.

Or if this one looks so visually appealing to you, I would omit the wine and add equal parts peach or pineapple juice and coconut water.

But back to the yucky wine. If you open a bottle of white that misses the mark on taste or have a bottle you want to get rid of on hand, turn it into a delicious wine smoothie.

Shall we run through this?! You’re not wasting PLUS you have the added benefit of some nutritional value given the burst of vitamin c from the oranges, mango, and grapefruit.

I think it’s pretty perfect to relish in the last moments of summer with this delicious, nutritious, and refreshing wine smoothie.

Instructions

1.  In a blender, combine peeled oranges, peeled grapefruit, mango, and white wine.

2. Blend on high until the wine smoothie is well-mixed.

3. Taste test – if you find it is not sweet enough, go ahead and add your honey and re-blend. If you think it is perfect, pour the smoothie in your glasses and top off with an inch or two of sparkling water.

4. Enjoy!
